Emmerdale star left in ‘dark hole’ after ‘axe’ from ITV soap as next move revealed

Daisy Campbell has told how she felt she was in a ‘dark hole’ following her exit from the show as she prepares for her next move

Former Emmerdale star Daisy Campbell has told how she felt she was in a ‘dark hole’ following her exit from the show as she prepares for her next move.

The actress joined the ITV soap in 2011 as Amelia Spencer when she was just seven years old and was involved in some big storylines throughout the years.

This included in 2022, when Amelia gave birth to her daughter, Esther, during a disastrous storm which caused devastation in the village.

Daisy’s exit last year came after Amelia’s involvement in the Tom King and Belle Dingle saga which saw Tom run a horrific campaign of abuse towards his new wife, Belle.

Amelia started a relationship with Tom, believing that Belle was ill and lying about his emotional and physical attacks. However, Tom was eventually sentenced and Amelia decided it was time for her and Esther to leave the village for a fresh start, particularly as she had no other family in the Dales.

Daisy previously told how it wasn’t her decision to leave Emmerdale and now, despite insisting her time on the show was ‘such a privilege’, she confessed: “I feel like I did miss out a lot during my childhood with friends and stuff. I used to want to stay at school with my friends rather than be on set.”

Daisy also explained that her character was written out when a new producer took charge with the decision leaving the actress ‘upset’ and in a ‘dark hole’.

She told The Sun: “When it’s been ripped away from you, because that’s what it genuinely felt like, it was so out of the blue, you do just get into a bit of a hole of, oh god, like, can I do this?’

“It was weird, because it was so abrupt, obviously Liam Fox, who played Dan, my dad, he left the year before (in 2023), and I just had a feeling… I always get gut feelings.

“It was at the beginning of the year, things were quiet. Obviously, we had the new producer come in. And then when it came to contracts, nothing came through, so I was like, ‘oh’… and then obviously it happened.”

But Daisy is looking ahead to pastures new and she recently revealed that she is opening Pontefract’s first reformer Pilates studio, marking her next big venture since leaving the Dales.

She originally shared the news on Instagram, saying: “Beginning of this year I had so much anxiety, after losing my job last winter, and really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I always knew I wanted to run my own business one day but didn’t know exactly where to begin.

“After I reflected on what I really wanted to do, I did a level 3 mat and reformer Pilates course over the spring and I’m so proud of myself for passing.

“I realised that I want help people with lifestyle and fitness, especially through Pilates. I want to create a new community for so many people out there.”
