Sometimes it seems like few shows have had quite so many farewells recently as General Hospital. The ABC soap has just said goodbye to Lesley Charleson onscreen with Monica’s death (and the fallout we’re still working through), but this year alone, they’ve also lost Chris Robinson and Denise Alexander — Rick and Lesley Webber — Tristan Rogers (Robert) and, most recently, June Lockhart, who played Felicia’s grandmother, Mariah Ramirez.
While Rick has been dead onscreen for some time, General Hospital has yet to say goodbye to Robert or Lesley. But rest assured, the show is very much planning something big for both of them. TV Insider spoke with headwriters Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten after General Hospital‘s incredible wins at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards and got a glimpse into what they have planned for the character.

“We want to make sure that we achieve the same goal that I think we have with the story of Monica’s passing,” Van Etten told TV Insider. “We want a story that will carry [Lesley and Robert’s] names into the future, so that we still feel Robert’s and Lesley’s presence for years to come.”
While there’s no timetable yet, lay the beloved characters to rest, we imagine it can take some time to pull everything together for a proper goodbye. Both characters, after all, have left their own considerable legacies on General Hospital.
Robert’s brother, Mac and his loves, Anna and Holly, are still around. Then there’s his and Anna’s daughter, Robin, and Robert’s most recent surprise, his and Holly’s daughter, Sasha! While neither are in town at the moment, we can’t imagine the show would say goodbye without bringing them back.

Then there’s Lesley, whose daughter Laura and her family have been entwined in Port Charles’ very existence for decades. Right now, though, Lulu is the only one of Lesley’s grandchildren around in Port Charles as Nikolas is in jail and Lucky has left town once again. But Jonathan Jackson, who just won an Emmy for his recent return to General Hospital, is very much ready to return if called.
When asked by TV Insider if he’d be up to coming back to say farewell to Alexander and Lesley, he just responded, “Oh, yeah. I’d be honored.”
However General Hospital lays Robert and Lesley to rest, we’re sure they’ll honor their lives, their loves and their legacies in a way that will have us both clutching our tissues and somehow excited for whatever is to come next.
