Morris Chestnut Goes Viral with Young and the Restless Theme Throwback

If you grew up in a house where the TV hummed with daytime soaps, this one’s going to hit you right in the feels. You know exactly what Morris Chestnut was talking about when he posted a short reel set to the iconic The Young and the Restless opening theme.

In his caption, Chestnut asked, “Who else grew up watching this with their mom and grandma?”

That one question opened the nostalgia floodgates. The clip has since gone viral because so many of us can relate to those afternoons spent watching the now 52-year-old soap that’s seen more than its fair share of iconic storylines, supercouples, and Friday cliffhangers.

Reaction to Morris Chestnut’s IG Reel

In the video, Morris pauses, reflects, and clearly feels something. Fans online couldn’t agree more: that theme song just hits different. Across the reel, the words appear: “Everyone born between 1969–1995 has some emotional connection to this song.”

And judging by the comments, that’s 100% true. His Watson co-star Rochelle Aytes even chimed in, writing, “Oh wow!!!! This sure does bring back memories!!!” while Y&R stars Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Melissa Ordway (Abby) dropped their own reactions.

Morris Chestnut may not have done a daytime soap (yet). However, he’s definitely a staple when it comes to film roles and primetime hits. Right now, he’s starring on CBS as Dr. John Watson in the hit series Watson.

Created by Craig Sweeny, the show premiered on January 26, 2025, and follows Watson one year after Sherlock Holmes’s apparent death at the hands of Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls. Watson tries to move on by opening the “Holmes Clinic” in Pittsburgh, treating patients with bizarre, unexplainable ailments, until clues begin to surface suggesting Moriarty might still be alive.

Watson was renewed for a second season, which premiered on October 13, 2025.
