General Hospital’s Jack Brennan Actor on Carly’s Reaction to Betrayal
General Hospital fans are preparing for the impending fallout between Carly Corinthos and Jack Brennan.
In an interview, Chris McKenna, the actor who plays Jack, opened up about the lies Jack has told, the damage those choices caused, and Carly’s brewing plan to get even.
Chris McKenna was ‘surprised’ by Carly’s revenge plans on General Hospital
McKenna, who stepped into the role of Jack Brennan on General Hospital earlier this year, told Soap Opera Digest that he always knew the truth about Jack’s secret would spark fireworks, but the show steered things in a way none of the cast expected.
“I think we were all expecting a big blow-up,” he admitted, adding, “I was, and I think Laura was, too. We were all kind of surprised [by the direction the show took], and this is, frankly, more interesting. I did not see it coming, I really didn’t, and I think it’s really fascinating now!”

For the unversed, Jack secretly recruited Josslyn, Carly’s daughter, to work undercover for the WSB, all while carrying on a romance with Carly and keeping her completely in the dark.
When the truth came out, Carly joined forces with Valentin Cassadine and started working on her revenge plan.
Speaking about Carly learning about Jack’s actions and partnering with Valentin, McKenna said, “Carly was completely in the right [initially]. But now, she’s committing treason! I mean, he lied, but she’s committing acts against the nation! So I think that now, Jack at least has an argument from this angle, which is, ‘I did something bad, but not treason!’
Given Jack’s occupation, he is used to steering the situation, not getting blindsided by it. According to McKenna, in the coming episodes, Jack will start to suspect things.
After the two share a night together, there’s a subtle but telling moment when Jack watches Carly standing in the bathroom doorway. Jack senses that something is not “quite right” between them. He stated, “So the super-spy is still in there! He is aware [of a shift in their relationship], even if he’s hoping it’s all going to blow over or that he’s wrong.”
McKenna also points to the emotional tug-of-war driving the storyline. Carly is pretending to stay close to Jack for her daughter’s sake, but faking a relationship is a whole lot harder than it looks. Jack has found himself facing the woman he loves, knowing she’s plotting behind his back.
