Genie Francis Reflects On Her Romance With a General Hospital Leading Man During a Very ‘Lonely’ Time
Being one of the longest current running stars on General Hospital, Genie Francis has spent a lot of time playing Laura and has experienced many memorable moments while appearing on the ABC soap. During an appearance with her husband Jonathan Frakes on Maurice Benard’s (Sonny) podcast, State of Mind, the daytime vet opened up about her and Franks personal past as well as her first boyfriend, the actor who’s played Scott since 1977, the same year as Francis’ debut.
“Kin Shriner is just, I just love him, and I always will,” Genie shared then went on to state that he was the “first boyfriend in my life, important person in my life.” She recalled how he still remembers and always calls on her birthday each year and how he was “a great boyfriend” and “took such good care” of her. “During that period of time where I was so lonely, basically. The happy time that I had, the happiest time that I had on that show was when I was with him.”

With her husband by her side, Franks asked, “Did he take you out on the Vespa?” Though Shriner didn’t have one at the time, Francis replied, “He had a motorcycle. He took me out on that. That was fun. My parents weren’t happy.” And Benard interjected, “So if you weren’t with Luke, you would have been with Scotty. Is that the way it works?” Francis reminded him that Laura had been with Scott first before Luke stole her away, leading her husband to joke, “Poor kid. Shrine bucket… He’s still bitter. Then I came in.”
