General Hospital’s Rick Hearst talks Ric and Sonny’s truce

After years of conflicts, brothers Rick and Sonny are finally mending things in the recent episode of General Hospital. Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, Rick Hearst has now opened up about the truce and finally sharing the screen with Maurice Benard (Sonny).

“I was thrilled,” Hearst recalls receiving the script, which included some major interaction between Ric and Sonny. “Whenever we get an opportunity to work together, we’re both thrilled, honestly,” he added.

Hearst continued gushing about finally getting to work with Benard. “I texted him when I saw that first script, and I said, ‘Bro, we get to work together! I’ll see you on Monday,’ or whatever day it was going to be. And he texted me back, very short and sweet. He just says, ‘I can’t wait,’” the actor shared.

Hearst added that he is “thrilled and intrigued” by Ric’s effort to finally put past issues to rest and patch things up with his brother. “If there’s any opportunity for the development of this character to go into a new chapter, and have that chapter involve his history with Sonny, I’m all-in,” he stated.

The actor went on to detail the impact of Sonny’s closeness with Jason on his relationship with Ric. “These characters were very much in each other’s orbits, and there was such genuine animosity between them. The two of them vying for Sonny’s attention, or to a certain extent, his trust, I think would be beautiful,” Hearst mused.

In conclusion, Hearst hopes that Ric’s newly forged truce with Sonny stands the test of time. The actor noted how “Sonny is the only living connection that he has with his [Ric] mother,” saying that it could potentially bring them closer in the future.
