Performer of the Week: John McCook as Eric on Bold and the Beautiful
The legendary John McCook stole the show this week as Forrester patriarch Eric Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, earning himself the title of Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for December 8–12. Well-deserved. So, let’s dive into what went down.
What Happened on Bold and the Beautiful?
This week, the 2022 Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Daytime Emmy Award winner dipped back into those award-winning acting chops as Eric took center stage in a storyline tackling ageism head-on.
In true Eric fashion, he had been secretly tapping into his designer era at home, sketching and creating breathtaking gowns that could very well shake up the fashion world. Just ask Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Finn (Tanner Novlan), or Donna (Jennifer Gareis), who all got a sneak peek at his stunning designs.
John McCook Named P.O.W
But while Eric was gearing up to show the collection to his son, Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) had other plans. And by “other plans,” we mean a surprise retirement party.
Ridge felt it was time for his father to step away from the fashion spotlight and leave his legacy right where it was. Despite Eric practically begging him to reconsider, hoping the two of them could work on the couture line together, Ridge stood firm, insisting he was doing what was best for his dad.

Fast-forward to the party. Eric walked in expecting a moment with his son, but was blindsided by a giant retirement banner spelling out Ridge’s intentions loud and clear.
Eric pleaded his case. Ridge pleaded his. And let me tell you, John McCook and Thorsten Kaye were at the absolute top of their game. The emotion was palpable: the hurt, the frustration, the heartbreak. Every bit of it came pouring through the screen.
An Unforgettable Scene
And then came the scene. The scene. Eric ultimately agreed with Ridge, picked up his stapler, and walked out with Donna. He headed to the showroom, asked her for a moment, packed up his sketches, turned off the lights, and sat there; designs in hand, legacy on the line. It was everything. A moment played with such grace and quiet devastation that it felt like a masterclass in acting.
John McCook delivered, and then some. Congrats on being named Performer of the Week, well earned and beautifully played.
