Emmerdale’s Ryan Hawley says ‘I’m very lucky’ in message to Danny Miller
The Robert Sugden actor returned to the ITV soap earlier this year
Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley admitted he feels “very lucky” to work with Danny Miller as he reflected on their recent storylines.
Actor Ryan Hawley reprised his Emmerdale role as Robert Sugden earlier this year after six years away from the ITV soap. Robert was sentenced in 2019 for the death of Lee Posner, and he swiftly cut off contact with Victoria Sugden and ex-husband Aaron Dingle.
His return came as Aaron was set to marry ex-Army medic John Sugden, and although Robert attempted to get Aaron back his efforts were rejected as Aaron vowed to move on without him.
The pair attempted to get things back on track, however, as John recently fled the country after his harrowing crimes were exposed – including the murder of Nate Robinson, holding Mackenzie Boyd captive, and framing Robert for throwing himself and Aaron over the edge of a cliff.
Just as Aaron hoped that him and Robert could start again, another obstacle was thrown into the mix. That obstacle being Robert’s prison husband, Kev Townsend.
Appearing on Lorraine on Wednesday (December 24), Ryan and Danny Miller chatted to host Lorraine Kelly as they discussed “Robron” and the upcoming Corriedale episode.

Ryan reflected on their recent storylines and said: “It certainly gives us a range for the two of us to kind of be happy one day and then the next group we get, we’re down in the dumps again. We’re always tested I think, we’re constantly being pulled apart and then working our way back together.
“There’s loads of exciting storylines and exciting obstacles to overcome. We’ve had two very deranged partners each that have kind of come with their own trials and tribulations for each character, and they’ve helped each other through. There’s been lies, there’s been deceit, we’ve got everything going on.”
Ryan’s return to the ITV soap came after years of viewers yearning for a “Robron” reunion, and the actor has previously gushed over his friendship with Danny over their years of working together in the Dales.
Speaking to Lorraine as Danny sat by his side, Ryan admitted: “I’m very luck that I have a lovely Daniel Miller to share the screen with… Danny Miller, he’s particular about that! But I’m very lucky to have great people to work with.
“As you’ve seen, the lovely Kev, Chris Coghill, Danny, Ollie (Farnworth), and Izzy (Hodgins), just all great people to get to work with and we get blessed with storylines that they keep giving us, and putting us in the middle of all the drama.”
Teasing what’s to come during Christmas, Danny previously shared: “Aaron’s suspicious, but more worried he’s leaving when Robert knows there is somebody actively trying to kill one of them or both of them. So, I think he’s worried about where he is going on Christmas Day, absolutely.
“I think, given everything they’ve been through, this is another, minor bump in the road that they need to get over. I think they’ll be okay, but you never know. There’s always something around the corner to challenge them. There has to be a breaking day one day. I just hope it’s not any day soon.”
He added: “I am hoping people are as shocked by it as we were when we read it. But I think we are being careful with how much information we are giving the audience before it’s on screen. But it is exciting. I think there are a lot of moments where you go, oh my God, come on, please, please! Please wake up. That’s all I’ll say…”
