Corriedale viewers ‘robbed’ as scene that ‘should have been kept’ makes them ‘howl’

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans have been reacting to a scene that didn’t make it into the main ITV episode

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans think a scene ‘should have been kept’ in the epic crossover after the ‘deleted’ moment was shared after the main episode aired.

The special episode, dubbed Corriedale, aired on Monday night (January 5) to celebrate the change to ITV’s soap schedule, and saw the horror of a multi-vehicle collision, and its aftermath, with characters from both shows caught up in the incident.

The episode revealed that the crash was caused by killer John Sugden and Becky Swain as the pair collided while driving on a country road, sealing the exit storyline of vicar Billy Mayhew, who died after being trapped in a minibus which went up in flames.

But amid the drama, the producers of both programmes also invited the audience to choose which two characters, one from each soap, they would like to see meet and interact in a scene.

The four different options viewers got to choose from were filmed in November and featured different Corrie and Emmerdale duos. They were: Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle) and Corrie’s Alison King (Carla Connor), Emmerdale’s James Hooton (Sam Dingle) and Corrie’s Andy, Emmerdale’s Nicola Wheeler (Nicola King) and Corrie’s David Neilson (Roy Cropper), or Emmerdale’s Mike Parr (Ross Barton) and Kate Ford, aka Corrie’s Tracy Barlow.

As the vote closed just 15 minutes before Corriedale’s transmission, the results were finally revealed in the episode, with Charity and Carla revealed as the winning pair. In the scene, which took place at the hospital following the dramatic crash, they were both seen waiting for the lift before sharing a conversation as they headed to where they needed.

It was then on follow-up show, Corriedale: Backstage Pass, that viewers were treated to the scene featuring Kirk and Sam. They were atempting to find their way around the hospital to get to their various friends and loved ones who had been caught up in the accident.

After Kirk asked Sam if he was there because of the crash, Sam replied: “Yeah. Aaron were in one of the cars. Charity were in another. Well, I think our Cain’s been shot again, so.” When Kirk wondered if they were his friends, Sam revealed that they are his family and part of “the Dingle clan”.

Upon Sam’s mention of his family name, Kirk burst out in fits of laughter before being told off and apologising. He then revealed he’d brought his dog, Peanut, with him, which left Sam informing him that he didn’t think animals were allowed in the building. “It’s a good job I ran into you. Someone with smarts,” Kirk replied.

Corrie and Emmerdale fans quickly reacted to the scene, which has since been doing the rounds on social media. @Mel_Navan said: “#Corridale #Emmerdale #Corrie Also, Sam and Kirk deleted scene should’ve been kept in.” @KittyKat3801 wrote: “I knew Sam Dingle and Kirk Sutherland would be a hilarious pairing #Corriedale #Emmerdale #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”

@elisha_sandhu26 commented: “This scene between kirk and sam is HILARIOUS. They rlly r the same character in different soaps. ‘I think our cain’s been shot again’ like it’s normal #corriedale #corrie #emmerdale.” Alongside the video, @lilmissmidgeley simply posted: “I’m howling.” @alanactor123 shared: “Unpopular opinion. I wish this won and not Carla and Charity.” @_ellielou97 added: “We were robbed, this should have been the winner #corriedale.”
