Emmerdale’s Nate Robinson star ‘heartbroken’ in throwback with ‘killer’
Jurell Carter was killed off by John Sugden over a year ago
Emmerdale’s Jurell Carter has hared a “heartbroken” message as his character was shown on the ITV soap months after his exit.
The actor, known for playing Nate Robinson, made his Emmerdale debut back in 2019. The character had a complicated relationship with his father Cain Dingle, and the last time the pair interacted it was a vicious ordeal.
After Nate’s marriage to Tracy Metcalfe fell apart for good, he decided to leave her, his daughter Frankie, and everything else behind for a fresh start in Shetland.
Ready for his new job opportunity, he set off without any emotional fanfare, but was only heard from once to say he had arrived. We eventually saw Nate’s body in the lake, and with his body wrapped up and tied with chains, it was clear to see that this was no accident.
Flashback scenes eventually aired that showed John Sugden had killed Nate when the villain first arrived in the village. However, he managed to pin the death on Owen in a carefully crafted suicide note.
John’s lies soon unravelled when Mackenzie Boyd figured out that he had killed Nate. Eventually, the village learned of John’s crimes and that he had a “hero complex” which involved putting people in danger just to save them, and he quickly fled the country.

Taking to his Instagram, Jurell posted a snap of Nate and John as he wrote: “I heard Nate made an appearance this week. Only right I put a throwback up with his killer (heartbreak emojis)…”
He then continued to tease: “Nate’s gone but I filmed on two projects in 2025 so I’ll be back on your screens this year and also maybe on your big screens in 2027”
John recently returned desperate to kill Robert and win Aaron back. Things soon escalated as Aaron held him at gun point while John drove recklessly.
In ITV’s crossover Corriedale, they ended up in a head-on collision with Corrie’s Becky Swain’s car. Although John fled from the scene once more, he was later found dead in the woods.
It was revealed recently that Victoria Sugden had killed him after he attacked her when his attempt to encourage her to runaway with him didn’t work out.
Speaking to the Mirror, Oliver shared: “To do the story and the character justice, it’s important villains get their comeuppance – that’s what people like to see. For me, personally, I wanted to stay at Emmerdale forever. I loved it there. So selfishly, I would say I wish he hadn’t been killed off.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
