Who Shot Drew? ‘General Hospital’ Finally Reveals the Shocking Truth
The long-running mystery gives fans the answer they were looking for as General Hospital finally confirms who shot Drew—and this reveal is just the beginning of the fallout that will result.
As soon as Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), was shot by a shadowy figure back in September, General Hospital fans immediately started debating who could have done the deed. The list of suspects was basically the Port Charles phone book. Since his release from prison for insider trading, he’s burned nearly every bridge in Port Charles—from cruelly dumping Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), to manipulating and bedding Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) while pursuing her married daughter, to stealing his nephew’s wife and Quartermaine family heirlooms. He’s blackmailed Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia (Brook Kerr), tried to frame members of his own family, abandoned a relative during a medical emergency, and cut off daughter Scout (Cosette Abinante) from nearly everyone who loves her right after her mother died. By the time he was shot, Drew had made sure just about everyone had a reason to want him gone.

The soap opera has capitalized on the storyline and led fans down a path with plenty of red herrings and misdirection. Just when it seemed the mystery was solved, new information—or a new suspect—popped up and sent viewers back to square one. But that all ended with Thursday’s episode. GH fans know that Drew’s wife, Willow Tait Cain (Katelyn MacMullen), is on trial for shooting him even though he believes her when she said she didn’t do it. They both claimed that she was being set up by her ex-husband, Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson), and Michael certainly looked like the guilty party many times in the past few months.
Willow’s lawyer has been pursuing a strategy of casting suspicion elsewhere to try to raise reasonable doubt for her client. Against her advice, Drew insisted on taking the stand—but was quickly goaded into losing his cool by the ADA. Both those in the courtroom and viewers at home knew he had hurt Willow’s chances for an acquittal. The decision was made to put Willow on the stand to plead her case directly. While she was being cross-examined by the ADA, her words said one thing—but fans were privy to her thoughts, shown through flashbacks of what really happened. By the end of her testimony, viewers had seen that she was the one who pulled the trigger that night but her composed testimony led everyone in the courtroom to believe that she had just saved herself from a guilty verdict and a lengthy prison term.
Willow was feeling pretty good after her testimony but unbeknownst to her, two other people now know she shot Drew and it’s all because of a phone call she received while leaving the courtroom.
No one knows that Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) were at Drew’s the night of the shooting and they heard a phone ring with a custom ringtone, playing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, while Drew was shot. They were convinced that Michael had to be the shooter after hearing him talk about the custom ringtone he had for his son, Wiley (Viron Weaver). They set a plan in motion to confirm their suspicions but the ringtone turned out to be something entirely different. They thought they had hit a wall until Willow’s phone played the ringtone they had heard the night of the shooting while she was walking out of the courtroom and she excitedly answered it, knowing it was her son, Wiley, calling her.
It remains to be seen what they will do with the information they have, but either way, GH fans know that while the question of who the shooter was has now been answered, this story is far from over—and in Port Charles, the truth always comes out, usually in the most deliciously soapy way possible.
