Emmerdale Kammy Hadiq star confirms major storyline in ‘some tragedy’ tease
Shebz Miah has teased what’s to come in the ITV soap
Emmerdale’s Kammy Hadiq has a big year coming up in the Dales as actor Shebz Miah confirmed that the ITV soap will look more into his family background.
Actor Shebz Miah quickly won viewers over when he made his Emmerdale debut last year as Kammy Hadiq. Upon arriving in the Dales, Kammy soon connected with Sarah Sugden and the two had a short-loved fling.
Since then, he’s been working at Barton and Dingle Automotives and although him and Belle Dingle appeared to have something promising, their budding romance was also cut short.
He has become close friends with Vinny Dingle and even helped him to process his sexuality, but apart from that not too much is known about Kammy’s background or family.
Earlier this year, Shebz took to his Instagram and teased “pending” when asked if we’ll learn more about Kammy’s background. Now, speaking to Inside Soap, Shebz has teased a big year for Kammy.
He shared: “For the first part of my journey at Emmerdale, we were still snowballing ideas back and forth. Myself, the producers, the writers, we were all trying to understand what’s going on.
“However, I have just come back from a chat with the producer and what she said to me is something that I didn’t imagine. I was like: ‘Okay, this is going to be interesting!'”
However, it looks like it won’t be the happiest of stories for the character, as Shebz continued: “We do look into Kammy’s past and we are going to learn more about his family history. Honestly, it was a mixture of emotions [when I found out].

“There was a lot of relief, there was happiness, but then there is also a tragic side to it as well. There’s some tragedy in there, but it all makes sense. There’s a reason why he’s so cheery and charismatic.”
On the subject of a potential romance blossoming between Vinny and Lewis Barton, the actor added: “I think Kammy really values friendships and relationships as well. We’ll start to understand later on why Kammy really values it, which is a spoiler for the future, I guess!”
On a Reddit thread, viewers responded to the news of the big storylines as u/elpasomk wrote: “I’m pretty sure Kammy has alluded to looking after his mum in the past. Could be he gets closer to Belle and then his mother’s condition becomes too advanced to be managed at home?”
u/jenson2025 added: “I think this will be really interesting and I hope Belle will be involved because when the writers decided to split them up and make them best friends instead, there has bizarrely been zero scenes between them and Belle hasn’t appeared much.”
u/adventurousteach994 penned: “Kammy is a breath of fresh air to the show.” as u/picturedependent1143 said: “Finally a new storyline I’m excited about and doesn’t involve many dingles hope they do this well. Ps like the dingles but there are other characters who deserve there own storyline instead of being background”.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
