Parental guide to watching Grey’s Anatomy

The show includes mature themes, complex se*ual relationships and graphic surgeries, which are strictly not appropriate for kids under 14 years of age. Since it is a network TV show, you won’t see explicit nudity. You will see passionate kissing, characters removing their dress, impulsive hookups, and lying in bed together after s*x.

The fans know well that over 20+ seasons, almost every major character dated or slept with many coworkers. Apart from nudity, the show also highlighted the use of substances. In Season 6, Episode 10, a scene showed Dr. Richard Webber drinking vodka in Joe’s Emerald City Bar. This moment marks his official relapse into active alcoholism.

Some kids find this show interesting, as one kid said,

“I think that 10 yrs old is the youngest that you should be, however I do highly recommend to WAIT! I think that you will really enjoy the show if you are 12+!”

What are parents saying while watching Grey’s Anatomy with their kids?

Letting or not letting the kids watch adult shows depends on the choices of parents. Some parents want their kids to live their life and let them watch, but skip se*ual scenes, and some strictly maintain age restrictions for their kids. On Commonsense Media, a viewer said,

“My kids and husband and I watch this together, they are 8, 11 and 14. Sometimes we have to skip through graphic or explicit scenes because of mild gore or sexual content but the show is very decent about never revealing too much, there is no nudity, and there is absolutely no swearing. There are some episodes to watch out for with kids under 10 but my kids ask good questions and we have good discussions about ethics, medicine, relationships with my older ones, everything.”

Some person on the website said that the show has too much s*x, swearing, and consumerism. A parent, Shazia, said on Commonsense Media,

“Definitely not appropriate for kids under 16. I’m surprised parents say it’s appropriate for 12+. Also, the main character is not a positive role model at all. She’s so desperate, dark and depressed. It’s fine for an adult, but certainly not something that’s a good influence on a child.”
