Say Goodbye to Maggie? Chicago Med Spoilers Hint at Stunning Replacement

Chicago Med has seemingly already found its replacement for Maggie Lockwood in season 11, based on a sneak peek of the premiere. The NBC medical drama is losing Maggie as Marlyne Barrett is exiting the show. The reasons behind the actress’ departure are unclear, as is the explanation for Maggie’s absence in Chicago Med season 11.

Although the series is losing one of its few remaining original stars, it’s also gaining one back. Nick Gehlfuss is reprising his role as Will Halstead in Chicago Med season 11. He’ll reunite with the other two original cast members — S. Epatha Merkerson (Sharon Goodwin) and Oliver Platt (Daniel Charles). However, Will isn’t returning to replace Maggie; another character will assume that role.

The Chicago Med Season 11 Premiere Photos Suggest That Doris Takes Over For Maggie

Doris Has Worked At Gaffney For Years

With Maggie gone, Gaffney Chicago Medical Center needs a new Head Charge Nurse in the emergency room. While NBC has yet to confirm who that position will go to, images from the Chicago Med season 11 premiere indicate that Nurse Doris takes over for Maggie in her absence. One picture depicts Doris walking with Goodwin, holding Maggie’s device that she uses in the ER.

Based on the above photo, it appears as though Doris will act as the Head Charge Nurse in Gaffney’s ER for the time being. Lorena Diaz has played Doris (whose last name is unknown) in Chicago Med since its pilot episode. So, perhaps her promotion makes sense. However, typically when a character leaves, NBC brings in someone new to replace them.

Maggie Is Still Expected To Return

Marlyne Barrett Is Coming Back To Chicago Med

Despite Doris’ surprising, yet deserved, promotion, Barrett is still expected to reprise her role as Maggie in the future. The original Chicago Med star is leaving ahead of season 11 because she’s taking a break from the show (for unknown reasons). That doesn’t mean she will be gone for good, though. By all accounts, the producers believe that Maggie will eventually come back.

Barrett’s character will be missing for an unspecified amount of time in season 11. She might not even return until season 12. In the meantime, Doris is her replacement. If Maggie’s absence stretches on longer than originally thought, NBC might cast a new star to take her place. For now, fans should expect to see more of Doris in Chicago Med season 11.
