Emmerdale’s Chris Coghill admits Kev is a ‘massive spanner in the works’ as Aaron learns the truth
Aaron Dingle accidentally catches Robert Sugden red-handed
Emmerdale’s Chris Coghill shared that Kev is a “massive spanner in the works” when Aaron sees the truth with his own eyes.
Actor Chris Coghill recently made his debut as Kev Townsend in Emmerdale, and has certainly given Robert Sugden some food for thought.
The star is no stranger to appearing on the small screen, with roles including The Bay, Slow Horses and Shameless. He also had an explosive role in EastEnders as Tony King.
Just as Robert thought he could finally move on with ex-husband Aaron Dingle after John Sugden fled the country, Kev unexpectedly showed up on his doorstep.
Viewers were then rocked when Kev revealed that he was Robert’s husband from prison, and the latter has been trying to hide the truth from Aaron ever since.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press, Chris shared: “It’s very complicated because Kev is unhinged. But there is some genuine feelings there, but they’re not quite what they should be.”

Ryan added: “It’s unclear at this stage as well, what his feelings are. There’s this guy that turns up and says he’s his husband, but Robert is trying to actively pursue Aaron…. An absolute bombshell”.
In upcoming episodes, Robert is visibly shaken when Kev encounters Aaron, prompting Robert to question his ability to maintain separate lives, especially after downplaying his past with Kev to Aaron. As he juggles his exes’ proximity to each other Robert’s anxiety heightens and soon under pressure from Victoria, Robert finally agrees to end his relationship with Kev.
Robert is guilt ridden when Aaron, unaware of Robert’s double life, joyfully announces their renewed relationship to those in the Woolpack. Robert reiterates to Kev how he is concerned by his underlying aggression and Kev promises to change and be better but with Robert failing to be honest and still attempting to balance both relationships Kev is suspicious something is amiss.
And Aaron too is starting to sense something is off. Soon Kev shocks Robert by giving him a fancy new watch and kisses him in public. Robert is horrified to realise Aaron saw the whole exchange.
Reflecting on the future of Robron, Chris admitted that Kev is “a massive spanner in the works”, to which Ryan added: “He’s a big obstacle and something very different, volatile and dangerous.
“Not in a calculated way, but in a very unhinged, unpredictable way. Also, there’s something redeemable. You kind of feel sorry for him. I don’t think Robert wants to break his heart. Robert doesn’t want to betray Kev.”
Chris went onto reveal that Kev shares a “vulnerable” moment with Victoria Sugden, and said: “There’s quite a nice little thing with Victoria, it takes a while but she sort of sees a bit of vulnerability… there’s some quite sweet stuff that happens between us.”
When asked if Kev will clash with the Dingles, Kev teased: “Obviously, Aaron’s a Dingle but I would have liked to have a fight with Cain. You never know.”
