When People Tell You Who They Are, Believe Them

Who are we to judge? Jada (Elia Cantu) and Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews) said they had a good time on their date. So we have to believe they had a good time on their date. Personally, we saw a lot more spark between Jada and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) — Did they break up? Did we see it? Did it happen off-screen? Did it just peter out? — and between Theo and Ari (Marissa Reyes), but we have to assume that Jada and Theo know their own minds better than we do from the outside.

So, yay! Jada and Theo had a good time on their date, and they intend to do it again. Sounds promising, right? Not so much….

Citizen Complaint

Jada and Theo first clashed when he stormed into her office, furious that she was allowing JJ (Casey Moss) to continue carrying a gun as a cop, despite Theo having made it clear he didn’t approve. Jada promised to investigate. And she did.

Theo was out on the street after curfew in an area where multiple break-ins had just happened. JJ called him out on it. Jada determined that JJ had acted appropriately. What happens the next time Theo doesn’t like something JJ has done, and goes complaining into… his girlfriend’s office? Theo does not currently appear mature enough to handle such a nuanced situation.

Lesson Plan

Theo asked Jada if she knew how to play chess, then pulled out his handy-dandy portable set and proceeded to lecture her on how to play his favorite game. Jada does not tend to respond well to men patronizing her or telling her what to do.

And yet that seems to be Theo’s only setting. He is happiest when he is lecturing someone about how smart he is, whether it’s Jada about chess, Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) about her company, or Abe (James Reynolds) about why Theo is a big boy who can, too, be CEO without turning into an evil capitalist. We don’t anticipate Jada putting up with it for long. Which is why we don’t really see this relationship lasting.
