Emmerdale spoilers see Call the Midwife star join ITV soap in new role as Ray ‘exposed’

Emmerdale will be welcoming a new character next week and they’re soon suspicious of Ray Walters

Emmerdale spoilers for next week see a Call the Midwife star join the hitĀ ITV soap in a new role.

In upcoming scenes, DS Carter arrives in the village looking to speak to newcomer and Robert Sugden’s estranged husband, Kev Townsend, about an attack on an old friend.

However, when Kev leaves, DS Carter notices Ray Walters across the street, sparking suspicion. Across the street, Dylan Penders, who is in a hurry to get to the Depot, insists on doing a handover in the open, angering Ray who reminds him of his priorities.

DS Carter, having just questioned Kev, spots Ray on Main Street to which Ray ditches the backpack Dylan gave him behind a wall and goes over to speak with DS Carter.

Following their chat, DS Carter watches Ray leave, unknowingly stopping him from collecting his bag… with DS Carter taking an interest in Ray, could he be exposed?

The role of DS Carter is being played by actress Lisa Diveney. Lisa has appeared in several TV shows over the years, including Call the Midwife as Julia Masterson back in 2013 and Beth in the Only Fools and Horses spin-off The Green Green Grass from 2005 to 2007.

Other roles include The Story of Tracy Beaker in 2006 as Lucy, Casualty in 2014, Grantchester in 2016, Harlots in 2017 and ITV drama Grace earlier this year in 2025.

Soap watchers will recall that Ray and his menacing mother Celia Daniels are exploiting youngsters Dylan and his girlfriend April Windsor.

April and Dylan have been manipulated by Ray and his mother Celia under the guise of repaying their so-called “debts”, which is in fact a ploy to groom them into drug dealing.

On Friday, things took an even more sinister turn as Ray informed April that he was sending her on another job, pressuring her to accept the task or he would sell her debt on.

Ray whisked April off to a hotel, providing her with cocaine for a ‘valuable client’ and encouraging her to have a drink. As a nervous April made her entrance, Ray’s sinister client, Tim, was thrilled as he accepted the cocaine and attempted to coerce April into taking the drug, along with some vodka.

Before long, April found herself cornered in a bedroom with Tim…

Fortunately, a quick-witted April managed to flee just in time, but it wasn’t long before Celia caught up with her and began gaslighting her about the incident.
