Emmerdale to bring back missing character after unexplained three-month absence

Emmerdale‘s Billy Fletcher is returning to our screens after a three-month absence from the show. And he’s thrown straight back into the drama, as his presence poses a major problem for troubled Dylan Penders.

Billy hasn’t featured on the ITV soap since the end of June, taking time out from the spotlight since his messy split from his wife Dawn and tense feud with love rival Joe Tate. But starting from Wednesday’s episode (8 October), we’ll see Billy back in scenes with his family and busy working for Caleb Miligan at the depot – where Dylan’s trying to carry out dodgy dealings under everyone’s noses.

Next week begins with Paddy Dingle feeling proud that Dylan passed his driving test, but Dylan is deeply unsettled when he realises that Ray Walters overheard their conversation.

In response, Ray congratulates Dylan on his achievement, but also seizes the moment to remind him that the crash course cost him a fair few pennies, meaning that he will have to put more graft in to pay off his debt.

Later, Jai Sharma gets wind that Dylan now owns a driver’s license and asks him whether he would drive for the depot, as well as offering him a trial shift travelling to Hull. Can Dylan hold down his day job with Ray still shadowing his every move?

Meanwhile, Ray talks over his new business plan with Celia Daniels, including the fact that Dylan will now drive for them. During the exchange, Celia also pushes for April to be more productive when it comes to drug dealing.

“It’s hard to believe that Ray and Celia could get any more evil than they already are,” our Emmerdale insider says. “But somehow, they manage it.

“After Ray convinces Dylan to take a delivery for him while he’s on his way to Hull, Dylan shares the plan with April, who is understandably jittery about the whole situation.

“And things only get worse for Dylan when he hears from Jai that he won’t be on his own for his first work trip as Billy will be in the driver’s seat, not him.

“It begs the question – how on earth will Dylan be able to do Ray’s bidding with Billy around? Goodness knows what the consequences could be if he fails to pull the job off…”

Olivia Bromley, who plays Dawn, recently spoke about the chances of her character reuniting with Billy after their sad split.

Next week’s episodes see Dawn grow even closer to current partner Joe after opening up to him about her traumatic past. But is Billy still waiting in the wings?

Olivia told Inside Soap‘s Soap Scoop podcast: “I love working with Jay [Kontzle, who plays Billy] obviously. It’s funny when you’ve worked with someone for ages. It’s very weird because you’re just used to your partner. They are your screen husband. And then I’m like: ‘Got a new one!’ It’s funny.

“I think with Dawn and Billy, it got really toxic. I don’t know if there’s any coming back from what she’s done to him. The way that she’s hurt him is really bad. So I don’t know whether he would have her back, but who knows?”
