Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley addresses future as Cain Dingle after ‘tough’ storyline
Emmerdale viewers are set to see fan-favourite Cain Dingle diagnosed with prostate cancer on the ITV soap this week.
Emotions are set to be at an all-time high this week as long-running village resident Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) will be told he has prostate cancer.
The devastating health storyline first began during the long-awaited Corriedale special that aired last month.
Towards the end of the episode, Emmerdale fans heard a doctor speaking to a mystery patient after some tests were run. Although the identity of the patient was concealed at first, ITV fans were told a ‘sizeable mass’ was found.
It was then that the camera panned to show Cain in a hospital bed next to his wife, Moira Dingle (Natalie J.Robb), who was emotional by his side, before she found herself in trouble with the police.
With a special airing tonight (February 4), ITV viewers will see Cain receive his official diagnosis as people will hear his inner thoughts, telling the story from the character’s perspective.
Speaking about the upcoming health storyline on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning, actor Jeff Hordley addressed his future on the show, having first joined back in 2000.
Cat Deeley asked: “How do you think the cancer diagnosis is going to affect Cain in the long-term?”
He replied: “Well, I mean, this story is going to play for a while. I don’t even think the writers, the team or the producers have decided where it’s going to go as from now.

“It’s going to play for a while, and we’ll just have to wait and see where it goes.”
Currently in the soap, Cain’s wife and support network, Moira, has been taken away after being arrested and charged with a double murder, following the discovery of two bodies on the farm.
Speaking about the lack of support, Jeff added: “He wants to keep it from everyone, he doesn’t confide in anybody, to do with all of this. He doesn’t want to tell Moira because she’s in prison, and she’s having a tough time.
“The person who he’d normally confide in and use for his source of comfort is not there because he wants to protect her. The kids, that’s a really big thing as well for him because he’s such a family man, it’s tough for him.”
However, the actor shared it’ll most likely be the wider members of the Dingle family who will be there to support Cain.
Emmerdale is available to watch on ITVX.
