Grey’s Anatomy’s Anthony Hill Shares His Controversial Love Interest Pick for Winston: ‘I’m Gonna Catch Some Flak for Saying This…’

Dr. Winston Ndugu may currently be caught in a love triangle between surgical resident Jules Millin and OB nurse Iris on Grey’s Anatomy, but there’s someone else in the hospital that star Anthony Hill could imagine his character being paired with, romantically.

“I’m gonna catch some flak for saying this, but I’m going to say it anyway: Amelia,” Hill tells Soaps.com.

More so than any on-screen hints at non-platonic feelings between the two characters, it’s the talent behind Dr. Amelia Shepherd that is responsible for Hill’s controversial pick. “I love working with Caterina [Scorsone]. She is phenomenal and just lifts everybody’s level of performance whenever she’s doing anything,” Hill explains. “And I just think it’d be so fun to spend time with her and do scenes with her and work things out, because that’s the kind of stuff that actors like. … She’s so good at breaking down a script, and making and validating choices, and making them interesting and watchable and fun. So I would just like to work with her.”

But there’s one awkward and not-so-small thing standing in the way of a potential romance between Amelia and Winston. “I know that that’s Maggie’s sister, technically. So it gets a little weird, but it’s Grey’s Anatomy. Why not make it weird?” Hill says.

Well, if you want to get into technicalities, Maggie and Amelia aren’t blood sisters, but Hill doesn’t believe fans would care about that detail, given the bond that the two women have developed. “They would riot for multiple reasons, but that’s beside the point,” Hill says.

In the meantime, Amelia might be getting a new love interest, courtesy of plastic surgeon attending Dr. Toni Wright (played by Yellowstone and As the World Turns vet Jen Landon). The new doc is seen with Amelia in a promo for Grey’s return, and there is definitely chemistry, not to mention history, during the brief glimpse. “We went to med school together. You hated me,” Amelia states, but Toni sees it differently: “I didn’t hate you. I liked you,” Toni says, surprising Amelia.
