Performer of the Week: Genie Francis as Laura on General Hospital
They don’t call her a Daytime Emmy winner for nothing! With a soap career spanning nearly five decades, Genie Francis has racked up accolades left and right, and now we can add Soap Opera News’ “Performer of the Week” for November 17–21 to her list, for her stellar work as Mayor Laura Collins on General Hospital.
This week served up some intense scenes, and honestly, we never doubted for a second that Francis could handle it. We’ve watched her shine in countless storylines over the years, and she’s long been a household name.
What Happened on General Hospital this Week?
But this week, Laura came to the defense of her grandson during a high-stakes mayoral election, and she was willing to risk it all for family.
Enter Professor Henry Dalton (Daniel Goddard), who dragged Rocco (Finn Carr) into his mess and demanded his arrest. Laura was crystal clear: nobody, and we mean nobody, was laying a finger on her grandson. She was sharp. She was fire. And Laura was protective.
When the professor decided to up the ante, trashing his lab and trying to pin it on Rocco, that’s when Genie truly lit up the screen.
Laura didn’t just talk; she acted. And by acted, we mean she slapped the professor across the face. Ouch. But, he deserved it.
That moment was pure Genie magic: commanding, fearless, and electric. We love it when the show gives her material worthy of her brilliant acting chops. Emotional? She’s got it. Comedic? She’s got it. Romantic? You name it. She’s got it.
On top of that, Genie had to tap into real trauma this week. That’s after discovering Dalton’s lifeless body in the back of her trunk. Clearly, somebody is trying to frame her. Genie brought it all to the next level.
Genie Francis is royalty in this genre, and this week was no exception. Another round of Emmy-worthy performances in the books. Congrats, Genie, on being named Performer of the Week. You earned it.
