‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Star Scott Clifton Makes Bold Declaration About Soaps
‘We have a job to do, but I hate that,’ the actor said about the one story trope he’s not a fan of.
The Bold and the Beautiful star Scott Clifton (Liam) has made a career out of working on soaps. Before joining the hit CBS soap, Clifton played Dillon on General Hospital.
Clifton has nothing but love for the genre he’s been a part of since he was a young adult. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have issues with the genre, especially as The Bold and the Beautiful keeps getting called out for one recycled storyline.
The Bold and the Beautiful’s Scott Clifton Reveals What He Hates About Soaps
The actor was a guest on the Soapy podcast hosted by his fellow The Bold and the Beautiful co-star Rebecca Budig and Days of Our Lives star Greg Rikaart. In fact, it was Budig who got Clifton to reveal what he doesn’t like about the soap industry.
Budig wanted to know how Clifton felt about Liam constantly waffling between Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Hope (Annika Noelle). It turns out Clifton isn’t a fan of it at all.
“We have a job to do, but I hate that,” he expressed, adding, “But that doesn’t mean I won’t do it.

After all, those love triangles have made the soap world what it is and kept it going strong for decades. Clifton, though, feels like time is up for that narrative.
“I think that we’re on the precipice of soaps—look, it’s like adapt or die, right? Culturally, I think 20 or 30 years ago, it was sexy and attractive for a man to be torn between two women that are fawning over him. And him having to go back and forth. It was the Ridge and Brooke and Taylor thing. That was attractive,” the CBS soap star stated.
Scott Clifton Feels It’s Time To Move On From Old Narrative
The actor knows what the industry is made of, but he thinks a shakeup is needed in the genre.
“Sure, that was like soap, bread, and butter for a really long time. But I don’t think we live in that world anymore. I think that we’re at a place now where that’s not only not attractive but beginning to be unattractive,” Clifton shared.
Obviously, soaps don’t see it that way, and Clifton knows he has a job to get done. If the writers want Liam to be a cheater, then that’s what Clifton signed on to do. However, that doesn’t stop him from wishing that his alter ego “treated women better.”
The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. New episodes of Soapy drop every Tuesday on CBS YouTube.
