Western series hailed ‘Yellowstone meets Virgin River’ gets huge update for new season

The Netflix series has already been renewed for a second season following its initial release in April 2025.

Western fans are in for a treat as a new season of a popular Western drama has added a Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actor to the cast.

Patricia Clarkson, known for her roles in House of Cards and Six Feet Under, joins Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel as a guest star in the series.

The show in question, Ransom Canyon, follows rival ranching family dynasties in the small Texas town of the same name.

Patricia will play Claire O’Grady, Quinn’s (Minka Kelly) mother, who is described as “drop-dead gorgeous” and both “maternal and self-involved”.

Not only this, Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman have also joined the cast for season two, which is currently filming in New Mexico.

Fans can expect to see the future of Ransom Canyon hanging in the balance as “new faces threaten the lives and loves of the rugged Hill Country town”.

Returning cast members for season two include Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, Marianly Tejada, Casey W. Johnson, Tatanka Means, Justin Johnson Cortez, Philip Winchester, Jennifer Ens, Brett Cullen, Kenny Miller, and Niko Guardado.

The first season spent four weeks in the Global Top 10 TV list on Netflix, with fans hailing it “Yellowstone meets Virgin River”.

Following the release of the trailer, fans claimed it looked “way better than Yellowstone” and had “cowboy Virgin River” energy.

Taking to IMDb reviews to share their thoughts, devadrianb gave it 10/10, adding: “If you’re a fan of emotionally rich dramas like Yellowstone and Virgin River, this show is about to become your next obsession.

“While it begins with a slow burn, give it an episode or two and you’ll be completely hooked. The storytelling draws you in gradually, but once it hits its stride, it doesn’t let go.”

Yourwebchick added: “We watched this show in a few evenings as it was very addictive. A LOT happens in a short amount of time but that’s probably what Netflix needed to get that second season going. The actors had some great chemistry!”
