Viewers of Young and Restless are aware that Cait Fairbanks is a talented musician, having seen and heard her perform on the soap in character as Tessa. But the singer-songwriter has also released multiple singles as well as an EP, and she’s actually actively recording new music now. “I’ve been in the studio for a while and my boyfriend [musician Jay Rudolph] and I have been working on the record,” she reports to Soap Opera Digest.

Making Music

Although the actress has been working on Y&R more often lately, she explains that the bulk of the work on the new album was done when she wasn’t as busy. “Most of it was done last year when there was a decent amount of time,” Fairbanks shares. “Lately, I’ve been very lucky to be working more. I definitely had more time last year, and I think we started working on the music during the writers’ strike, so it was a pretty slow time in general.”

And now, it’s almost ready to be released into the world for her fans to enjoy on all the standard streaming services like Tidal, Spotify, and Apple Music. “I’m wrapping that up,” she shares, “shooting some album artwork, and I’d like it to be out sometime in early December, because my parents will be out here [in Los Angeles], and I could do a show or something. I’m not sure when I’m doing a show yet, but I was thinking about early December as kind of what I’m aiming for right now.”

What’s In a Name?

Fans know that Fairbanks has also released music under the stage name Ginesse, but she hasn’t yet decided which persona this new album will fall under. “I had put music out with the show under Cait Fairbanks, and I just kind of wanted something outside of that,” she explains of the genesis of the Ginesse alter ego. “And the music was so different, and I wanted different artwork. It was just something to kind of be a different character in my life.”

Still, fans might find this new music under the name of Cait Fairbanks when it is ultimately released. “I think nowadays, I’m kind of just like, well, the show is such a big part of my life, obviously,” the Y&R star muses. “Maybe I’ll just do it under the same name because that’s how people know me. That’s who I am. That’s my name — not the name I was born with, but it’s the name I claim nowadays — so maybe I’ll just do that again. Who knows? I guess it depends on how I feel [when the time comes].

“I’m such a stupid artist,” Fairbanks laughs. “I change day to day!”
